Facet

DIGITAL

Responsive web design for Facet, a documentary film producer. The goal of the site is to highlight each film and the people who helped create it. The imagery used focuses solely on the documentaries while the bright colors and clean type add personality to the brand.

The website opens with a logo that changes in size as the user scrolls, revealing the hero text about the company. The background color gradates through the brand colors.

As the user continues to scroll down, the first featured film appears. The site relies heavily on imagery from the films the company has produced. Clicking the + will pop up more info about each of the films. The info includes directors, producers, a summary, the official film website, and a movie poster. Below the feature film, a visual menu shows all of the films. The user can toggle between All Films, In the World, or In the Works.

On mobile, the feature film takes up the full screen for the optimum size of the films imagery.

Secondary pages on the website include About and Grants History. The theme of dashed lines, which mirror the many facets of the company, is carried through in to the accordion style.

Process

The site serves to highlight the feature films that the company has produced. I looked at a few different ways of presenting the films and whether the information about each one would be hidden or always visible.

Facet has produced over 20 documentaries and these all needed to be presented. Variations included a typographical menu vs. a visual menu. Ultimately the visuals from the films had a higher impact during testing.
